Did Ryan Adams really just compare John Mayer to Bob Dylan?


John Mayer has certainly had his share of detractors over the years.

But don’t count hipster favorite Ryan Adams among that group.

In fact, Adams took to Twitter recently and compared the mainstream pop star — who is anything but a hipster favorite — to (gulp!) Bob Dylan.

“Heartbreak Warfare by @JohnMayer is one of the best songs on one of the best albums of all time. I don’t care what you think. It’s his Blood On The Tracks. And it’s perfect. A perfect album,” Adams tweeted.

Wow. Umm, “Blood on the Tracks” — Dylan’s 15th record, released in 1975 — is widely considered to be one of the greatest albums in the history of popular music. It features such all-time great cuts as “Tangled Up in Blue,” “Simple Twist of Fate,” “Shelter from the Storm,” and, best of all, “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go.”

“Battle Studies” — the parent album of “Heartbreak Warfare” — is, well, an album, for sure. So, it shares that much in common with Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks.” But any other similarities between the two would likely be lost on most listeners (aka, anyone not named Ryan Adams).

But credit Adams for bringing a strong opinion to the debate. Plus, remember, he “doesn’t care what you think.” Of course, he doesn’t. Or else he wouldn’t have tweeted out that he doesn’t care. People who don’t care always take the time to tweet out that they don’t care, right?
