SAN LEANDRO — One person was killed and at least one other injured Tuesday morning in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 880, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol said the collision happened at about 9:48 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-880 just south of Washington Avenue.
Initial reports were that several vehicles were involved and the scene stretched for dozens of yards.
The person killed was inside a car that was hit by an SUV. The SUV ended up on top of the rear portion of the car.
The person inside the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
A SigAlert was issued at 10:11 a.m. and two of the southbound lanes were closed, the CHP said.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene at 10:23 a.m.
The cause of the collision is under investigation.
