If you like country music and saying “Yee-haw,” Week 7 of Season 27 was perfect for you. With five country music artists performing during the show, some accompanying the competitors, “Country Night” was everything that host Tom Bergeron and co-host Erin Andrews promised.
The show provided a lot of fun and country style, but there was also a high level of emotions. With tears just below the surface, John Schneider credited the show with helping him deal with the four-year divorce that he’s been going through. He said a wedge had been created by the divorce between him and his three adult children, and each week, he said he hoped that one of them would be in the audience. I ran for the tissues at that point.
There was a lot of kissing, too. When Keo Motsepe and Evanna Lynch received a perfect score for their rumba, Keo raced down from his interview upstairs with Erin to run across the dance floor and give head judge Len Goodman a kiss on the cheek, as Keo had promised for a “10 from Len.” Later in the program, Bobby Bones danced a Viennese waltz with Sharna Burgess and after the scores were written down, he said he would give Len and judge Bruno Tonioli kisses for scores of 8. When three 8s were revealed, Bobby bounded around the judges’ table, planting kisses as promised.
Finally, the “showmance” between celeb Alexis Ren and pro Alan Bersten blossomed with more revelations of feelings between the two plus a sweet kiss. These relationships are often encouraged by the producers to lure in more viewers, but the pair seems so sweet, I hope it’s not fake.
Sadly, this was a week for a double elimination in preparation for the semifinals. After John and Emma, Evanna and Keo, and DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold were declared to be “In Jeopardy,” Evanna and Keo were safe and will be in the semis, while the other two couples were eliminated. And before you wonder, yes, both Bobby Bones and “Grocery Store Joe” Amabile — with lower scores than either DeMarcus or John — were safe and will be competing in the semifinals. SMH!! What kind of dancing competition has this turned out to be? With fan bases that large and that strong, these two guys might run for office!!
With the audience and judges giving a standing ovation, Tom said, “You guys delivered some of your best stuff. At least, you’re going out on a high note.”
DeMarcus agreed. “You know, we’re going out on a high note and this team dance showed us what this show is about. It’s about family — everybody just coming together. The thing is, I feel like I won every week. I learned something every single week. It was amazing. Thanks.”
Erin asked John about his emotions. “John, we saw how emotional you were tonight and what this journey has been like. Do you have anything to say to Emma?”
“I am so grateful that you were my partner and you …read more
