In the latest episode of Chicago Fire — the show’s 199th — Casey headed to Oregon to check in on Ben and Griffin, the sons of his late best friend Andy Darden. (Darden died in the show’s pilot episode). Their mom is in prison, and the boys have been struggling since their aunt who was caring for them left.

Casey meets with the boys’ counselor, and she tells him they’re likely going to end up in separate foster homes. He suggests taking the boys back to Chicago with him, but the counselor rejects that idea, saying it’s better for them to stay in a more familiar environment.

Casey reluctantly returns to Chicago. But Griffin and Ben are still on his mind. In a conversation with Herrmann (David Eigenberg), he confesses he’s made a big decision.

“We’ve always said any firefighter’s child is every firefighter’s child,” Casey said. “Herrmann, I think I have to move to Oregon, take care of those boys.”

So, is Casey really leaving Station 51 behind? It looks like a definite possibility. After the episode aired, some fans took to Twitter to share their feelings about the possibility that Jesse Spencer might be leaving Chicago Fire for good.

“Don’t leave 51 Casey,” one wrote.

Many were particularly frustrated because Casey and Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) had finally — after several seasons of will-they-or-won’t-they waffling — taken their relationship to the next level.

“Matt Casey or Jesse Spencer better not go anywhere,” one wrote. “We just got #Brettsey. Plus who’s going to make sure Severide doesn’t get into too much trouble.”

“Matt Casey is not allowed to leave,” another commented. “You didn’t give us the build up with Brett just to make him go. Isn’t the world depressing enough???”

But a few fans argued that Spencer’s departure wasn’t a sure thing. They pointed out that it might still be possible to bring the boys to Chicago rather than moving to Oregon.
