Ashton Kutcher challenges Ivanka Trump over Thousand Oaks shooting

❤

This year, Ashton Kutcher celebrated his 40th birthday at a party hosted by his wife Mila Kunis at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks. One of his guests was his good friend Joshua Kushner, the brother-in-law of Ivanka Trump.

On Wednesday night, a gunman opened fire on patrons and employees in the Ventura County club, killing 12 and injuring dozens of others.

Kutcher’s proximity to America’s latest mass shooting, and his personal connections to President Donald Trump’s loyal daughter, came into play Thursday evening.

The “That 70s Show” star took to social media to launch a series of tweets, telling his 18 million followers that any of us could be victims of such a sudden eruption of violence and calling for reform of U.S. gun laws.

My wife threw me a birthday party this year at the Borderline. Only reason we are alive is the shooter chose a different night. My heart goes out to the victims. I’ll say it again… Gun Reform Now! Politicians need to stop standing behind the dollar & Protect the people!

One of his tweets was directed at Ivanka Trump, who is married to Jared Kushner, Joshua Kushner’s older brother. Kutcher called on Ivanka Trump to plead with her National Rifle Association-backed father to take a common-sense stand on addressing gun violence in America.

Kutcher, a self-described, lifelong gun owner, informed Ivanka Trump that “your brother-in-law” — implying Joshua Kushner — was at his birthday party at the Borderline Bar & Grill. It’s not known when the birthday party took place, but Kutcher’s birthday is in February.

“He could have just as easily been a victim,” Kutcher told Ivanka Trump.

Kutcher also reminded Ivanka Trump that she now practices Judaism. Before marrying Jared Kutcher in 2009, Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism, and is known to regularly observe Shabbat and attend Saturday services at a synagogue near her home in Washington D.C.

Referring to the Oct. 27 mass shooting of 11 congregants at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kutcher said to Ivanka Trump in his tweet: “You go to synagogues you could be a victim!”

He then said, “Talk to your dad! Plead with your dad! Let this be your legacy! Gun Reform now!”

. @IvankaTrump your brother in law was at that birthday party. He could have just as easily been a victim. You go to synagogues you could be a victim! Talk to your dad! Plead with your dad! Let this be your legacy! Gun Reform now!

Kutcher probably hoped that his celebrity and connection to Ivanka Trump would mean that his message would reach her, above all the thousands of messages and criticisms that are tweeted at the first daughter on a daily basis.

He also tweeted out a broader message on gun reform to the president, to the White House and to U.S. legislators Nancy Pelosi, Ben Sasse and Cory Booker.
