Armed robbery at East Bay bank, chase, ends in arrest of two suspects

Two people suspected in an armed robbery at a bank in Antioch tried to outrace police, hit a pair of vehicles during a chase, then crashed into a power pole in Pittsburg, police said.

The drama went down Wednesday around 12:15 p.m. and involved a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, police said. Both were arrested and taken into custody after receiving medical treatment.

According to a statement from Antioch police, officers reported to an armed robbery at a Wells Fargo in the 5800 block of Lone Tree Way. Police said a customer was making a cash deposit at an outside ATM, when the two suspects approached her, pointed a gun and demanded her money.

The two took the woman’s cash and ditched the scene in a four-day gray Infiniti, police said. She was not injured physically.

An officer spotted the vehicle a couple of minutes later on westbound Highway 4, but police said they called off the chase because the suspects were travelling more than 100 mph.

Pittsburg police later saw the vehicle near Los Medanos College and put spike strips on at the intersection of East Leland Road and Harbor Street. According to police, when the driver swerved to avoid the strip, it hit two other cars at the intersection.

The drivers in those cars were not injured, police said.
