ANTIOCH — A recent explosion in gun violence continued Saturday when a shooting hospitalized a man Sunday, police said.

The 30-year-old was in critical but stable condition at a hospital after being taken there in an ambulance, according to a statement from Antioch police Sgt. Adrian Gonzalez.
Officers responded to the 2300 block of Huntsman Way at Whitetail Drive about 4 a.m., and found the man down in the front yard. Gonzalez said he had a bullet wound to his stomach.
Firefighters and paramedics provided first aid at the scene.
The city underwent a cluster of violence of September, including a stretch of eight shootings in five days. The gunfire resulted in one homicide; 20-year-old Elijah Scales died from his injuries day after a Labor Day shooting.
Interim Police Chief Brian Addington said he has rearranged staffing to deal with the recent shootings.
