3.7-magnitude earthquake rattles hills northeast of Gilroy


A 3.7-magnitude earthquake was felt by groups of San Francisco Bay Area residents Sunday, authorities said.

The United States Geological Survey said the quake hit at 5:38 p.m. about 5.5 miles east-northeast of Gilroy and southeast of Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch County Park.

At a shallow depth of just over 4 miles below the surface, some residents noticed the temblor Sunday afternoon, with reports registering it stretching from San Francisco to Monterey.

The majority of those noticing the quake in real time came from Gilroy and Morgan Hill addresses.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
