Who would throw out the ceremonial first pitch Wednesday before the Guardians-White Sox playoff game? Inquiring minds wanted to know. The Sox made it sound like a big name would walk out to the Rate Field mound.
Would it be former President Barack Obama, a noted White Sox fan? Would Pope Leo, the most famous Sox fan in the world, drop in on a pope plane? How about Joakim Noah, who famously asked whether anyone had vacationed in Cleveland? Jim Thome, who starred for both teams? Derrick Rose? Jonathan Toews?
The answer: none of the above. It was actor Belmont Cameli, a Naperville native.
All due respect to Cameli and his family, but no one guessed him.
Cameli, 28, has appeared in the “Saved by the Bell” reboot, the Netflix film “Along for the Ride” and Prime’s series “Off Campus,” a hockey romance for which he finished shooting the second season this summer.
