1 dead, 2 wounded in Chatham drive-by shooting

Three men were shot, including one fatally, late Monday during a drive-by shooting in Chatham.

The three men, two 20-year-olds and one 19-year-old, were walking in the 8200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue about 10:40 p.m. when a black car pulled up alongside them and someone in the vehicle opened fire, hitting all three, Chicago police said. The car then sped away north on Cottage Grove Avenue.

Alfred Alexander, 20, was shot in the chest and declared dead on the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The other two men were each hit in the left leg and were in good condition, police said. The 19-year-old was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital while surviving 20-year-old was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.

No one has been arrested.

Area 2 detectives are investigating.
