The Buffalo Bills will look very different for the 2025-26 season, and part of that is that they’ll be headed up by a new head coach in Joe Brady, whom the team announced as their new head coach on Tuesday, January 27.
What a difference a few days make. Now, just three days later, Brady and the franchise have made another choice.
One of the early tasks for Brady and the rest of the management at the Buffalo Bills is to tire a new offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator. Although most of Brady’s introductory press conference was taken up talking about his coaching style and praising quarterback Josh Allen, he has more to do outside of what was talked about at the event.
“Josh Allen is the best player in the NFL and I have to grow,” Brady said in the press conference. I’m so excited to continue this journey with him. I have so much love for that man right there and all I want is for him to get everything he deserves.”
It’s also worth noting that Brady thanked former head coach Sean McDermott, saying, “I want to thank and recognize Sean McDermott. Four years ago, coach McDermott gave me the opportunity of a lifetime to come here, coach for the Buffalo Bills and coach Josh Allen. I took immense pride in that.”
Brady added of the former coach, “Over the past four years I’ve learned a tremendous amount of things from coach McDermott: how to lead, resilience, standards. The past nine years of this organization matter. I’m understanding of that. I’m appreciative of the opportunity to be a part of it. They matter deeply and they deserve respect.”
Buffalo Bills Hire an Offensive Coordinator
On Friday, January 30, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that the Buffalo Bills are hiring Pete Carmichael as their new offensive coordinator.
“The Bills are hiring Pete Carmichael as their offensive coordinator, sources tell The Insiders,” he stated in a post on X. “It’s a reunion for Joe Brady and Carmichael, who had Brady on staff for two seasons during a 15-year run as OC. Now, after two seasons in Denver, Carmichael heads to Buffalo.”
As for Carmichael’s pedigree, he was serving as a senior offensive assistant coach for the Denver Broncos. Before then, he also spent 18 seasons as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints, serving the last 15 of those as their offensive coordinator.
So, the Buffalo Bills’ staff is slowly growing and solidifying. It will be interesting to see how this new era fleshes out.
Joe Brady of the Buffalo Bills By the Numbers
So, what kind of record does Brady have as offensive coordinator at the Bills? Since becoming the Buffalo Bills’ offensive coordinator, the team has averaged 29.6 points per game, 367.7 total yards per game, 145.4 rushing yards per game and 222.3 passing yards per game, according to team research.
Before heading over to Buffalo, Brady coached with the Carolina Panthers as their offensive coordinator from 2020 to 2021. His first position in the NFL was with the New Orleans Saints as an offensive assistant from 2017 to 2018.
