Eagles OL Tyler Steen Called Philly ‘Legend’ After Wild Fight Against Commanders

If you’re a professional athlete and want to win over a city of fans known for being the toughest in all of sports — Philly we’re talking about you — then there is one surefire way to do so.

Fight. Make it messy. Make it big. Make it memorable.

Do that, and they’ll love you forever.

Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Tyler Steen etched himself into Philadelphia pro sports lore with an incredible, wild, rollicking fight in a Week 16 win over the Washington Commanders.

Steen, 6-foot-6 and 321 pounds, began throwing blows with 5-foot-10, 182-pound Commanders cornerback Mike Sainristil with 4:28 left in the fourth quarter and within seconds found himself fighting 8 Commanders all at once … and somehow holding his own.

“Tyler Steen decided to fight the entire Commanders defense by himself,” Barstool Philly wrote on X on Saturday, December 20. “EAGLES LEGEND.”

Steen was ejected from the game, as were defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw and safety Quan Martin for the Commanders.

“Tyler Steen got jumped by nearly 8 players,” Eagles reporter James Simone wrote on X. “Build him a statue.”

Commanders Irked by Eagles Running Up Score

The fight seemed to be sparked by the Eagles going for a 2-point conversion to go up 19 points instead of just kicking an extra point to go up by 18 points.

“We wanted to make sure we went up that way, just in case. That was what our math told us in that particular case,” Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni told NFL.com. “It’s a division game. It’s always back-and-forth. … That’s the team we played in the NFC Championship Game last year. I know how badly they wanted to beat us. I know how badly we wanted to beat them. We’ve always got to keep our cool in moments like that. But that’s NFC East football. … They’ve got tough guys. We’ve got tough guys.”

The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles clinched the NFC East Division title with the win. It also officially eliminated the Dallas Cowboys from playoff contention.

Philadelphia is 10-5 overall with 2 games remaining — at the Buffalo Bills in Week 17 and home against the Commanders for the Week 18 regular season finale.

Steen Became Valuable Piece of O-Line in 2025

Steen, a 2023 third round pick (No. 65 overall), has become a valuable piece of Philadelphia’s offensive line in 2025, starting 15 out of 15 games as injuries have sidelined stars like Cam Jurgens, Landon Dickerson and Lane Johnson at different times.

Down the stretch Steen, who started 3 games over his first 2 seasons, has also proven to be one of the NFL’s best at his position. According to Pro Football Focus, Steen’s 71.8 overall grade puts him 17th among 78 eligible players at his position.

That’s incredible value for the Eagles with Steen in the third year of his 4-year, $5.75 million rookie contract — not that Steen will ever need money to eat or drink in the city of Philadelphia for the rest of his life.

“Tyler Steen, you just earned a TON of respect in this city!” Coco Eagles 88 wrote on X. That’s Jason Peters (expletive) right there!!!!”

“TYLER STEEN AGAINST THE WORLD,” Eagles Wire’s Victor Williams wrote on X.
